Mr. Ahamd writes:

"Islamists are a crazy bunch. "

OK, we can agree on that point. But many are a few steps further along than the regular talk to the walls crazy - many of them are crazy in a diabolical and lethal way. The question obviously is - what practical steps are or can be taken to curb the madness? Evryone loses - but more especially the Muslim PR campaign which has to function for muslims living in the West.

Are any concrete steps being taken in muslim communities NOT in the West?

"...But remember that the USSR survived as long as it did primarily because it was being buoyed by help from the West."

The USSR remained as long as it did because Russia had complete control over the populaces and resources of more than a dozen non-Russian countries whose citizens lived in fear of a knock on the door in the night from KGB agents. As well the Soviet army had a heavy presence in all of the former soviet republics and uprising was out of the question - until the inevitable economic morass caught up with the centrally controlled system.

Totalitarianism of any sort (political, religious) meets the same fate . The Islamic Republic of Iran is showing signs of unravelling in a similar fashion. People inflicting their limited belief systems on others besides being absurd is doomed to failure.
