Reader comment on item: Replacing the U.S. Constitution with the Koran

Submitted by B.N.Gururaj (India), Jul 26, 2009 at 22:55

As a person from a country which has endured Islamic rule for a millennium, I am not at all surprised that democratic constitutions would be replaced by Koran and Shariat. Existing governments and political systems were replaced whenever Islam and muslims became dominant majority in a country. This was before democracy dawned outside western world.

Even thereafter, this trend has not abated. On the other hand, it is on the raise. Best examples are Pakistan and Bangladesh. Instead of replacing the constitution, Islam has subverted the democratic systems by relabelling the political systems as Islamic Republic. The terms are oxymoron. Islam can never be democratic. It is inherently autocratic in its characteristic. It is hardly surprising that most of the so called Islamic democracies and republics have dictators at the helm of affairs. Where there is an elected government, it is tottering on the brink of another bout of dictatorship.

Entire history of Islam shows that people never exercised any political powers. It was always a clique of political leaders who were subordinate to religious leadership, or the religious leaders themselves who have always exercised power. So, don't be surprised by the proclaimation of HT leader that US constitution would be gone, if US were to become a Muslim majority country. Like communists, Islamists also never hide their agenda. It is always other people who are incredulous at this agenda, though the protagonists make no secret of it.

Believe them when they say that they would replace the US constitution. They mean it.
