Reader comment on item: Replacing the U.S. Constitution with the Koran

Submitted by Nabil Ahmad (United States), Jul 24, 2009 at 12:24

As a Muslim living and working in the USA, I have no problem with the US Constitution.

But I do have a major problem with these self-styled "devout Muslims" who call for replacing the US Constitution with the Qur'an.

Do they not recall that even our Prophet Muhammad put together the first Contitution of Medina after he fled to that place from Mecca, which was a document separate from the revelations that he was receiving from God? His constitution was NOT the Qur'an, but was based on the principles laid forth in the Qur'an.

As far as I am concerned, the US Constitution does not in any way go against the fundamental principles and foundations for a just society as laid forth in the Qur'an. I believe that it is the duty of Muslims living in the USA to not only preserve the US Constitution the way that it was written by the founding fathers of the USA but to defend it in every way from those who wish to violate and/or abrogate it.

Any self-styled "Muslim" who lives in the USA who calls for abrogating and/or violating the US Constitution should be, based on precedents set forth by our Prophet Muhammad himself and his earliest followers, be either put to death or permanently expelled from this country.
