Reader comment on item: Bush Promotes a Palestinian "Right of Return"
in response to reader comment: shaky relations

Submitted by coyote_ugly (Canada), Jan 15, 2008 at 00:28

As long as no Israeli leader would be self-destructive enough to go along with the inanity of a lame duck quacking, a little bit of distance between Israel and the US could be a good thing at this time.

In the end, it is Israel that must be in charge of her own fate. The only ones who can save Israel as a Jewish state are Israelis themselves.

And becoming too close to America for too long is bound to breed dependency, and this just cannot be a good thing.

Let the US and Europe talk and make their deals with the Palestinians and let the world murmur their approvals that talk is a good thing. The Palestinians will never honor any deal anyways, until they are broken.

But is Israel, and Israel alone, who must be in charge of who is allowed into the country. That is the definition of being a sovereign nation, after all.
