Right of Return equals destruction of Israel

Reader comment on item: Bush Promotes a Palestinian "Right of Return"

Submitted by Chris (United States), Jan 14, 2008 at 11:18

As we have seen in Somalia, Lebanon, Algeria, and even in the Palestinian territories, the injection of Islamist militants quckly destroys the country -- leaving anarchy and chaos. The "right of return" is based on a 60 year old UN resolution which has no relevance today, because 99 percent of those who want to "return" to Israel were never there in the first place.

If there are any of the 600,000 original Palestinian refugees still living, they should be compensated for their legitimate losses -- but only if the survivors of the 600,000 Jews expelled from Arab countries in 1948 are also compensated for their losses. That would be justice.

In the bigger picture, no Arab leader would accept a two-state solution unless he could somehow show his people that it is merely the first step in subsuming the entire region as an Arab state. When Israel is considered a "Waqf consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgement Day" (Hamas Covenant of 1988), U.S. Presidents and negotiators must be very wary of what is at stake.
