Tipping the scales in favor of Arabs

Reader comment on item: Bush Promotes a Palestinian "Right of Return"

Submitted by Rick (United States), Jan 14, 2008 at 09:36

Saying that palestinian refugees need to be compensated for property they lost is fine. What about farms and kibutzim in Judea Samaria that Jews were forced to leave during the Arab 1948 invasion, as well as the even more costly explusion of 850,000+ Jews from Arab lands after 1948 often with only a suitcase and a meager amount of money allowed to be taken by them?

To Bush and others, the word "refugee" is synonymous with "palestinian". Jews are simply forgotten and Israel hasn't done much to rectify this mistake. The wealth of disenfrancised Jews is not only much greater than that of palestinians but it is more verifiable. Just who is a palestinian refugee is a major question. Many Arabs who were poor of jobless in Lebanon or Syria "signed up" for UN assistance as palestinians when in fact they were never in Israel.

Also, the number of palestinian refugees have so mutlplied that it is inconceivable that they all actually are related to those who left in 1948. Also, we know that many if not most of these Arabs left Judea & Samaria at the bequest of Arab governments to leave for a temporary period and after the Jews were killed and/ or driven off the land they could come back and reclaim the booty. Also many left after Arab propaganda that Jews were bloodthristy intent on killing all Arabs and so left in fear. Most who did leave never saw an Israeli soldier. The Arab claim is thus part true and part bogus while the Jewish claim is much more substantial and factural.

But a correct reading of history, especially Arab history, is not Bush's ( or anyone in the West actually) strong point.
