Un-confuse me!

I continue to appreciate your thoughts. I am confused, however, by this articles description of moderate muslims including freethinkers and athiests. Are you referring to former muslims, some mideasteners, or ? Or, am I still correct in thinking that people who strongly identify with the muslim faith are all fundamentalist religionists, with no real concern for rational behavior, and are, essentially, any modernists mortal enemy?
