Non-Islamist muslims

Reader comment on item: [Moderate] Voices of Islam

Submitted by Abdul Salaam (United Arab Emirates), Nov 19, 2003 at 06:01

You talk about non-islamist muslims being atheists or calling islam 'a backward religion' The term Muslim means someone who submits themselves to god. A muslim is someone who submits themselves to God. An atheist could hardly be described as someone who is submitting themselves to something they don't even believe in.

Also if you are a muslim who believes in god and that the Qur'an comes from god, how could you then call the religon you believe in 'backward'. These statements not only show a kind of 'knowledgable ignorance' but also a complete lack of logic.
