A proposal for real diversity

Reader comment on item: Profs Who Hate America

Submitted by Steven Malcolm Anderson (United States), Nov 26, 2002 at 02:49

We hear the Politically Correct prattle endlessly about "diversity", which, in their inverted Orwellian Newspeak, turns out to be uniformity. What we need is REAL diversity, not only of races, sexes, & sexual orientations, but also of ideas and ideologies. I propose this idea: How about a law that any government-funded school or university must have, in its humanities and social science departments (where the crucial battles are being waged), a complete spectrum of viewpoints? One third of the professors could be those who think of themselves as "liberal", "left", or "left of center", another third could be those who think of themselves as "conservative", "right", or "right of center", and the third third could be those who don't think of themselves as either "left" or "right", or who think outside the linear "left-right" spectrum altogether.
