So Far Removed From Reality

Reader comment on item: Profs Who Hate America

Are these exemplars of academia that far removed from reality? Most quoted here have no real on-the-ground experience, or if they do, it's being led around by Saddam's spinmasters. Apparently they're not watching their favorite PBS channels either. They must have missed the Frontline program "The Mind of Saddam" several years ago that documented his grotesque form of totalitarianism. They must have also missed the recent Wideangle segment "Saddam's Ultimate Solution" produced by UK documentary filmmaker Gwynne Roberts. Both programs documented the horrors - Halabja's slaughter and now multi-generational genetic defects, constant death sentences and torture, complete lack of human dignity in everyday Iraqi life. Iraqis deserve better. Removing Saddam isn't simply a political and defensive move. It's now at the level of humanitarian intervention.
