Exchange With Christopher Bollyn/Sam Brand

Reader comment on item: Those Danish Cartoons and Me

Submitted by William Sumner Scott (United States), Feb 28, 2006 at 14:29

I sent an email to Christopher Bollyn and received a response from Sam Brand with copies to Chris Petherick, Michael Piper, and Eric Hufschmid. I do not know who these people are – but assume that one or more of them write under the pseudonym Christopher Bollyn.

Subject: Re: Why the European Press is Provoking Muslim....

From Bollyn/Brand

Dear Mr. Scott,

You wrote to me: "Your article makes no mention of the murder of Theo van Gogh or Danial Pearl - what right to Muslims have to be outraged at cartoons when they show no remorse for these murders. And why aren't all people including you outraged rather than apologing for the only religion of Abraham continuing its violent ways. You should study religion more and slander other writers less. I suggest you read the The Legacy of Jihad compiled by Andrew Bostom, M. D."

I don't know how much you know about Abrahamic religions, but you certainly don't know much about Middle Eastern history. You say that Islam is the "only religion of Abraham continuing its violent ways?" We are talking about since 1972 – Munich.

What do you call Israel's conduct in the region over the past 60 years? Non-violent?

Scott Response

Yes.

From Bollyn/Brand

Israel is, after all, the nation of the "Jewish people," is it not?

Scott Response

Under UN, particularly the British. If you have a problem with the grant of Israel the land, then you should voice it with the UN. The Arabs refused to move and grant the charter that the rest of the World Granted.

From Bollyn/Brand

Perhaps you have forgotten the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in 1948-49? What about Beirut 1982 and Sabra and Shatila?

Scott Response:

See above.

From Bollyn/Brand

The U.S. aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan is being done by a "Christian" president who calls his efforts in the Middle East a "crusade." Did you miss that one?

From Bollyn/Brand

That is a government action, not a religious one. The US has Muslims too. And, we do not all agree on the invasions.

From Bollyn/Brand

I have not slandered anyone.

Scott Response

Your work on Mr. Pipes is Libel.

From Bollyn/Brand

Daniel Pipes is the one who calls me an "antisemitic" writer, Mr. Scott. Do you know what that means?

Scott Response

I cannot apologize for what Mr. Pipes may have called you in the past, but if I see any claims of who you are again, I will question him too. The object is to get you both to the high ground, if you have a point to make then make it, but do not attack contrary authors. Your attacks against Mr. Pipes were malicious. And, back to the point: read The Legacy of Jihad by Andrew Bostom, M. D. to get your history in proper focus.

You make no mention of the Muslim obligation to stop the murders of innocent people in your reply.

From Bollyn/Brand

Best wishes,

Christopher Bollyn

Scott Response

Send me the emails for your copy list so I may copy them with my response.
