Reader comment on item: Identifying Islamists through Interrogations

I quite agree that it's theoretically possible to ferret out extremist thinking; I further agree that it's ruinously expensive to try. Additionally, questioning of any kind will be perceived to be invasive and potentially having the ability to deprive the questionee of their civil liberties and rights under either the First Amendment or other legislation. A very determined effort has to be made to integrate new arrivals and over time their suitability and commitment to their host country can be evaluated. No system is perfect and a few innocents will slip through the net, but the price may be worth paying if those dedicated to the overthrow of democratic principles, domestic values and the rule of law can be kept out.
