Reader comment on item: Identifying Islamists through Interrogations

Submitted by Philip (United Kingdom), Jan 13, 2016 at 08:12

If I were a said Islamist, I would be looking at all these openly published comments and suggestions. Then I would make a list or write up a report of what suggestions were being put forward and how they might be used in said interrogatory manner. Then I would in my own country, state whatever, establish a programme much as militaries do, to resist such interrogations. Train serious Islamists/Jihadists how to resist, dissimulate, lie under pressure. It would take time and training, but they generally have time and training methods. Any one who worked as an 'interrogator;' under SH or Assad would probably think these method simplistic in the extreme. Remember that many of ISIS core cadres and leadership are ex SH Baathist, so trained in interrogation methods we wouldn't want to imagine. And they were secular officials often interrogating religious victims.

If one is of a profoundly religious way, spiritually strong such Western methods can be resisted. The West has so little understanding of the religious psychology, mind-set, it still treats it as a political ideology. Muslims have been dissimulating for 1300 years. It will take more than this to crack them, far more.
