Reader comment on item: Twenty Years of Illusion about Islamism
in response to reader comment: Does the word "Islamism" exist in Arabic?

Submitted by scottindallas (United States), Jun 8, 2012 at 09:05

If you mean applying Islam to your life, there's a word for that. But, when you write Islamism, you're not saying applied Islam. You have a bunch of other notions you're associating with Islam, as a fearful outsider; which is a different thing altogether. Even if there were a word, it wouldn't mean to you, what it does to them.

Take Jihad, or struggle, more specifically ongoing struggle. Like good gov't is an on-going struggle, cutting, spending, re-evaluating, tweeking programs, phasing some out; that's a jihad. Gardening is a jihad, always tending. Keeping clear of sin and temptation is a jihad.
