Twenty Years Of Illusion About Islamism

There are oxymorons and then there is the biggest one of all...Islamic democracy. Islam was never set up as a democracy from its inception and there is nothing in the Koran calling for a democratic process. It seems millions of Muslims around the world want their religion to join the modern age, including many in Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, and certainly Syria where their supreme ruler just denied having anything to do with all the indiscriminate killing, including little children, a most diabolical act. Mr. Djerejian may actually believe in the possibilities he proposes, but the realities are continuing to destroy and confound the planet because it is never possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Religion and politics are too intertwined and mullas and leaders will never give up their power over the masses. The names may change but the end result will be the same...a people oppressed and looking death in the face. It will just have another name. It's time our own leaders stopped drinking the Kool-Aid.
