Reader comment on item: Twenty Years of Illusion about Islamism

Submitted by Leon Kushner (Canada), Jun 5, 2012 at 12:31

Where are the leaders like Djerejian now? Instead we have Obama, the Clintons and many others who continue to cast hope that one day if we continue to appease the Islamists, they will see the world in a different light. He stated the problem back in 1992. Even though he fell into the modern day trap of hope and change, he is human. I assume that his background is Armenian. If so, that might explain his deep understanding of the importance of stating coherently and clearly issues with a people who may pose a genocidal threat such that the Armenians went through at the hands of the Turks.

This cognitive understanding of existential threats is also very common to Jews. Not just Israelis but Jews in the diaspora, especially us older farts (present company included) who are for the most part children of Holocaust survivors.

I have no doubt that Mr. Djerejian would be pushing his government much more strongly in dealing with Iran if he was in office today.
