they don't need it. The enlightenment was because the Christian church rejected science. Islam NEVER did that. Islam doesn't resent challenge, debate, or discussion. What you're criticizing is that Islam didn't benefit from the industrial revolution as the West did. Since the industrial revolution and the invention of electricity the Muslim world has been under Western colonialism. So, actually, you might not like to ask the question. Another area that is very similar to the Muslim world is the rest of Africa, and South America. Here too we see the effects of colonialism, but Islam isn't dominant.
