Actually Israel has that right. Search and seizure of a ship in international waters is in order to enforce a blockade is legal under international maritime law. They had plenty of weapons onboard: knives, truncheons, metal poles, slingshots, even crude molotov cocktails. All used to attack the boarding party. The ship was not "only trying to help" -- they were trying to provoke a violent confrontation, and got it.
