Reader comment on item: "Free Gaza" Flotilla Defeats the Israel Defense Forces

Submitted by Peter Hercky (United States), Jun 1, 2010 at 11:34

I have been a PR practitioner for 30 years and teach PR at a major east coast university. I am also a staunch supporter of Israel and teach Israel/Jewish current events at our Hebrew High School. Enough about me and let's talk Hesbara (PR.)

I dare anyone to turn the tables and create a pro-Israel stance in the media. Ain't gonna happen. Not because they are anti-Semitic, but because they are story tellers. Have you ever seen a movie or read a book where the poor, downtrodden, weak character is the villain and the rich, smart, strong character is the hero? Me neither. David always beats Goliath, or no one's interested.

Israel gets good PR when a restaurant is blown up by terrorists. Israel sends help to Haiti brings nothing. Israel helping African nations farm and fish brings nothing. Israel providing humanitarian aid and health care to Palestinians including Gazans brings nothing. Israel innovating and improving lives globally brings nothing. Want good PR? Have Israel purposely put its citizens in harm's way so that four or five women and children are killed each week. Sorry, but that's what works. The truth is irrelevant.
