Reader comment on item: "Free Gaza" Flotilla Defeats the Israel Defense Forces

Submitted by Martin E. Weinstein (United States), Jun 1, 2010 at 12:05

You say that it is strategically unsound to take a defensive posture as Israel has done toward the Gaza Flotilla, but you do not suggest an alternative policy. I agree with your criticism, and suggest that Israel should relentlessly repeat that Hamas in Gaza is conducting war against Israel, and Israel should go on the offensive. Since the blockade is entirely legitimate, the Turkish led effort to run the blockade should have been warned that it would be fired upon if it disregarded warnings to turn back, and if it persisted it should have been fired upon until it turned back or the ships were sunk. Israel should start cutting off "humanitarian" aid to Gaza, if humanitarian aid is used a pretext for supporting Hamas.
