Foregone conclusion

Reader comment on item: "Free Gaza" Flotilla Defeats the Israel Defense Forces

Submitted by Murray Orbuch (United States), Jun 1, 2010 at 08:36

Given the Erdogan government's clear intent to create pretext after pretext for public self-righteous indignation to bolster its sagging popularity especially with Leftist/Islamist collusion, there seems to have been few other possible outcomes here. The Israeli naval commandos alighted upon the vessel in a peaceable and legal fashion and there appears to have been little else Israel could have done. The IDF is clumsy in these instances but I doubt that any amount of preparation would have changed the outcome short of planting double agents among the passengers, disabling the ship (and creating a new publicity stunt about the sad listing charity ship in the Med) or allowing the vessel to pass un-inspected into Gaza after attacking a nearing party; this would have opened another bag of worms. If the ship would have been disabled, the Turks and traditional Useful Idiots across the globe would have reacted similarly. The frightening thing in all this is that "leaders" in the West who readily jumped upon the outrage bandwagon threaten their own right to interdict suspicious cargo on the high-seas when they deem it necessary for their security.
