Reader comment on item: Destroying Sculptures of Muhammad
in response to reader comment: So-called double standard

Rules should be applied without discrimination. Yes, everyone should control their emotions, even you. Remember what happened to the author/senator of "They who dare to speak'.(I hope I have got the title right). First of all his book faced immense difficulties in being published.

Same negative reaction was witnessed when Jimmy Carter's book hit the book shops. Freedom of expression is OK but all rights are enjoyed with some responsibilities. There was a strong reaction to the views of Mr. Daniel Pipes among the Muslims. AS a Muslim I may not agree with all his views, but I would rather try to deal with them through logical arguments. I enjoyed reading his book 'Militant Islam reaches America' which was quite informative, although some of concepts about Islam were not correct.

My point is that if some Muslims act violently, they should be blamed and not Islam. One incident from the life of Muhammad will show how tolerant he was. There was an old woman who used to throw garbage on him. There were his companions who could have hacked her into pieces, but no such thing happened. Later when the act was not repeated one day, Muhammad inquired and was told that she was sick. He visited her to inquire about her health which ultimately brought a change of heart. Prophet Muhammad would have (not) reacted in the same way to the cartoons and the Dutch film. If Muslims are not reflecting these tolerant acts then that has nothing to do with Islam or Prophet Muhammad's teachings.
