When giving such claims, give the complete story, and its context.
How about telling a story of a : once upon a time a wise man......then you skip lots of pages..and open another part of the book, you find that the wise man beheaded a poor lady..and you close the book again, what would you say? he is not wise at all , why did he kill the poor lady, no he must be an insane!

the problem with a real muslim is that he makes sure that when he narrates something, he must be sure of the references, the real situation, and coincidences happening at that time.
if you want to investigate the truth, be frank to yourself.
