Reader comment on item: The Middle East's Tribal Affliction

Submitted by Don (Pakistan), Jan 24, 2008 at 20:38

This tribalism isn't limited to Muslims in the Middle East. Look what's happening in Pakistan right now, and has been the norm there since its founding in 1947: Western and Northwestern tribes within Pakistan don't consider themselves Paksitanis, but whatever tribal community they belong to. They fight the government, fight its army (these days), are governed by their own (sharia) laws with no acknowledgement of Pakistan laws or its constitution.

On top of that, honor killings, revenge killings, kidnappings and holding hostages over grievances, complete subjagation of women and girls who are not allowed an education and are used as property/money to pay off debts or used to buy land, or forced to marry into a family that will enhance the staus of her father, and boys get madrassa educations only and no nothing else but the brutality and the ways of their tribal customs and Islam.
