Reader comment on item: The Middle East's Tribal Affliction

Submitted by Mary Helen Connelly (United States), Jan 24, 2008 at 09:05

Every thoughtful adult must have, in the back of his mind, dreaded to learn these words.

We have encouraged ourselves with the post WWII development of Japan, but they did not have a system of tribalism. Also, the Emperor, whom they worshipped, cooperated with the conquerors.to facillitate a modernization that was nothing short of miraculous.

Learning yesterday, that the new government of Afghanistan is killing a man for downloading a document on his computer that is negative about Muslims, sets my hope back to square one.

Please enlighten us. What now?
