The same appalling indifference to their own (and others') suffering that makes the Palestinians so implacable and irresistible is seen in the wider Moslem world -- and I honestly don't see a cure for it.

We westerners can't comprehend thinking of ourselves solely as parts of a successful ant hill, but that is exactly where Moslems live and think.

I guess the only reasonable hope is that via globalization Western hedonism and self-centeredness will corrode their focus on the group.

It would be nice if the better aspects of Western values (respect for others' rights on their own merits, besides the self-interest of protecting one's own rights) would permeate them but I'm cynical about that.
