Madrasas have long been present in Canada...

Reader comment on item: A Madrasa Grows in Brooklyn

Submitted by J.S. (Canada), Apr 25, 2007 at 13:19

There are a number of madrasas spread throughout Canada. One of the founders of a Toronto madrasa was suspected of terrorism (or involved with the financial support of terrorists living abroad.)

Maybe these madrasas should be monitored, or a national watch list created.

An article on the web states: "While no organization keeps an official count of the number of Islamic schools nationwide [this refers to the United States], 'it's obviously a growing phenomenon' that corresponds to the growth and development of the Muslim community in the United States, said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations [an Islamist/terrorist sympathizing front group posing as a 'civil rights' org].

Five to 10 new Islamic schools open in any given year, said Munir Shaikh, executive director of the Council on Islamic Education who estimates between 400 and 500 Islamic schools, mostly elementary schools, are now operating in the United States.

The Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier opened the Crescent Academy because the growing Muslim community in Greater Binghamton felt the need for a school to reinforce its religious beliefs and traditions, Dawood-Sethi said. ..'In 2007, it's difficult to retain our heritage' in the midst of mass, global American culture, Dawood-Sethi said.

The school offers Arabic classes three days a week. Religious instruction is woven through the curriculum. Dawood-Sethi and the three teachers at the school wear the hijab, a traditional Muslim head dress for women..." [Saturday March 31, 2007 "New school in JC [Johnson City] promotes Muslim values, culture One-of-a-kind facility to open doors to public today"].

So much for "integration" or learning American/western values. Apparently, Irshad Manji attended an Islamic school in Vancouver on week-ends, back in the 80s...what she was "taught" does not bode well (a mix of Islamic supremacism and varied hatreds.)

How does one "un-teach" what has been taught? What is worse is that these schools are claiming to be "public institutions" -- where is the separation of church/mosque from state? why on earth should public monies fund religious schools? and a "religion" which preaches intolerance and (frequently) outright sedition (that's overthrow of western democracies)? It needs to be stopped.
