Reader comment on item: A Madrasa Grows in Brooklyn

Submitted by Avenger (United Kingdom), Apr 25, 2007 at 21:32

Dear Readers,

Free speech. The freedom to practice your own religion. Freedom of the pursuit of happiness.

If it is the case that a multicultural school, with an Islamic foundation, teaching a wide curriculum should be established in Brooklyn, then who are we to complain? Do we throw stones at the Catholic schools because of their 'meddlesome' priests, or do we shut Fox because O'Reilly and Hannity are right wing fruitcases of Irish descent and that they may sit on Boards that we object to? Or perhaps the Jewish schools which do not shy away from teaching that Palestine was no more than a "desert" prior to the establishment of Israel. It is this same nonsensical rhetoric that is propagated by Tzipi Livni (whose father is a condemned terrorist) and others for decades.

Zionism, Capitalism, Darwinism (Social and otherwise), Christianity and Judaism are apparantly quite proper educational foundations in modern America. This being the case, then we are in no position to criticize the American Indian curriculum which may go about teaching that Muslim influence in America pre-dated Columbus by some 500 years, and that the arrival of the genocidal hordes was no more than an extension of the reconquista and ongoing European crusades of the 15th Century.

Similarly, we are in no position to object to Hindu schools, Islamic schools, or as in this case, one that opens its doors to children of ALL religious persuasions. There are many differing views that make up the tapestry of our society and stifling opinions that we may dislike or even be offended by is not what democratic values are about.

If we object, then we are traitors to our own system which we so violently spread across the modern world. Each to their own, n'est ce pas?

As a matter of fact, there is nothing of any substance upon which we can found any objections... the only thing of value is that it is an Islamic based school in America. This in itself is far too unpallatable for some... in fact too unpallatable for those who are the biggest danger to our society... those who wish to silence the masses, control the flow of thought and free expression. ...
