Lighting a candleReader comment on item: A Madrasa Grows in Brooklyn Submitted by David W. Lincoln (Canada), May 1, 2007 at 19:27 I am not holding up Turkey as a Jeffersonian democracy. Therefore I am content to light a candle, instead of cursing the darkness. It's the duality between specificity and the overall, which is not unlike Raphael's "The School of Athens". Susan, you are correct to point out the flaws, but the flaws are only part of the story, for Turkey got at least one thing right. Whether closing mosques for repairs when a firebrand imam sounds like Goebbels is being done these days, I don't know, but it is helpful in standing up to those who are following in the steps of Goebbels et al.
