I don't agree

Shias politics are far more complicated than what Mr Pipes seems to believe. The Iranian-style islamic republic is a model of the past, iraqi shias are willing to be more creative than that. Pipes fell once again victim of his own propaganda, and of what is commonly written in a globally ignorant (and suddenly afraid) american press.

America is fast to come back to its old stance : democracy is not for non-americans. We could have believe something was changing. A "strong man" appointed by the US (BTW Pipes forgets to name Pinochet as an example) would be absolutely illegitimate. I really hope that the Bush administration will let the Iraqis choose what they want, including any kind of modern islamic state, rather than imposing once again a stupid dictator, or a Chalabi style international crook.
