Faux strongman only

A strongman might lead to a tendency to hang on to office at all costs. They need a weak president within the strong framework of the US imposed structure. Perhaps a revival of the King (with symbolic power only) might bring some comfort level to the situation. Let them flounder, make mistakes and learn within this framework.
