Auditions for Strongman

Reader comment on item: A Strongman for Iraq?

Submitted by Philip R. Johnson (United States), Apr 29, 2003 at 13:24

I wholly agree the Iraqi people are not yet capable of democracy, and that the Iranians would be given an opening if forced too soon in that direction. But where do you find a benevolent strongman, a statesman for the people? How many candidates are available? How do you know they will not become another Hussein? I agree with the suggestion, just wonder about the ability to find a suitable candidate in a short period of time.
