The logician and the magician

Reader comment on item: In 1796, U.S. Vowed Friendliness With Islam
in response to reader comment: Harrak, Pipes' contradiction

Submitted by Harrak (Canada), Nov 14, 2006 at 21:47

..if I were to be able to well argue the existence of such contraditions, I would not have underlined in my earlier post the excellence of Dr Pipes in his skillful political like academic work.

I will explain what I mean in a third different way other than the law and politics example already given. You see, I consider my self as a logician that tries to filter the works of a magician (Dr Pipes). In the process of magic, the logician can not find his way through. Dr Pipes knows well how to logically make magic and therefore add to his magic a touch of logic. This is what I meant earlier with the examples of Law and Politics. In academics, Dr Pipes knows well how to academically make politics and how to politically make academics.

The very moment Dr Pipes has chosen to write about friendship between Islam and America (eventhough historically speaking) is no coincidence. To me, it is like organizing a friendly soccer match between the USA and Iran in this particular time. Especially if organized by a conservative or a"neoconseravative" western body. Reading between the lines gets you somewhere you can find conservatism -or rather reservism if I may make my own discription of Dr Pipes school of thought- in its early stages towards the centre. Perhaps temporarily, but who ever is able to move it to the centre is well able to move it back to the right.
