Another interpretationReader comment on item: In 1796, U.S. Vowed Friendliness With Islam Submitted by Joel Strom (United States), Nov 9, 2006 at 01:17 While I find all of this interesting, I think the major point is missed......or perhaps just assumed by Mr. Pipes..... The very fact that this document even exists is a death-blow to those who claim Islamic extremism is a recent development and that appeasement works with these folks. Those who find themselves in denial about this cannot dispute the fact that this document was needed SOLELY BECAUSE RADICAL ISLAMISTS HAD ALREADY BEEN ATTACKING AMERICAN CIVILIAN VESSELS and that was curiously well before George W.
