the new SwissReader comment on item: In 1796, U.S. Vowed Friendliness With Islam Submitted by Donald O (United States), Nov 10, 2006 at 20:38 America - especially now the the 'left' has made gains in the control of things, will probably go more isolationist. As you know the USA in it's geographical location has always given the luxury to procrastinate foreign threats [Latin America excluded] and this is no exception. If the Harry Reid way of thinking takes further hold of US affairs you will see it drift into a approach of International affairs that liken it to a modern flexible Swiss model of government. After all, this is what the Europeans have always dreamed for the US. Threats never approach to Switzerland because it remains neutral in disputes and so it enjoys the accepted isolationist status granted it for hundreds of years. Can this be acceptable by civilized humans or not? Can't the USA pursue this goal? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
