The Israeli face of defeat

Reader comment on item: Muslim Zionism

Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Jun 8, 2006 at 12:03

The proposed division or even the surrender of Jerusalem by Israel's Jews to the Palestinians is simply another face of the Palestinian victory over Israel.

When Ariel Sharon drove his own People out of the Gaza Strip, as well as the Jewish heartland of the Shomron, he was just doing what any leader does when his forces have been beaten and his people defeated, he retreats, he cuts and runs, and he tries his best to salvage something, however pitiful, from the wreckage.

Thus the practically inevitable Israeli surrender of Jerusalem to the Palestinians is a given what with the precedents of retreat set by Sharon, and the plans proposed by his successor, Ehud Olmert. Of course, Mr. Olmert and his media machine will put the best face possible on this surrender, and try to present it as a shortening of the borders, or a gambit to show how the Palestinians, no matter how hard Israel tries, still won't accept compromise, or some other piece of arrant and willful nonsense.

But make no mistake, according to the present Israeli mind set, as set forth by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Israel's military has been trounced, her Jewish People humiliated, and the victorious Palestinians are to receive Jerusalem as their prize.
