When a nation or a military force gives up a "bargaining chip" for nothing in return, that is not a bargain, that is surrender. Victorious nations and military forces don't surrender, only defeated ones do. Israeli voters put into power a leader and a party which has incessantly preached retreat, and while Israel hasn't really been defeated, enough of our Jewish Israeli voters feel we have lost and voted accordingly.
