Defeat or Fortress IsraelReader comment on item: Muslim Zionism Submitted by Blackspeare (United States), Jun 9, 2006 at 11:40 Your depiction of the Gaza withdrawal as a defeat for Israel surely misses the point! The direction of the Sharon/Olmert administration is to create a Fortress Israel with unilaterally defined borders. The intent is to sidetrack the Fatah/Hamas regime and let them slug it out (perhaps a civil war of sorts) while Israel stabilizes her position vis-a-vis the borders and the "Wall." Fortress Israel allows her to attack "terrorism" at will while keeping her population relatively safe. Gaza and the outer areas on the West Bank have little value to Israel though the coastline in Gaza has the potential to be a tourist attraction. The withdrawal from Gaza and the outer areas is hardly a defeat by any stretch of the imagination.
