Dr. Pipes' New York Sun column on the significance of Jerusalem to MuslimsReader comment on item: Muslim Zionism Submitted by Norman Meyerson (United States), Jun 6, 2006 at 22:10 If memory serves correct, the word "Jerusalem" appears in the Koran no more than once or twice. And with no overwhelming theological significance. Whereas it appears in the Bible over 500 times. Add the word "Zion" and you can count another 100-plus...And then there's the 19 years that the Arabs had sole control of East Jerusalem ('48 to '67). During that time King Hussein of Jordan made precisely two trips to Jerusalem. But during those same 19 years, not one governmental leader of any of the other 21 countries that constitutes the Arab League deemed it religously significant to pay a visit. So much for Muslim Zionism. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
