Dr. Pipes----great article, but the fate of Jerusalem boils down to a Solomonic decision. However, in this case no one is going to come forth and say "don't split the city." Eventually the city will be split in two to appease both sides----didn't Barak offer that to Arafat??!! What is most interesting is that the UN partion of 1947 envisioned a Jewish and Arab state side-by-side with Jerusalem as an international city----whatever that is, but I guess a divided city is close enough. We'll probably be close to 100 years of confrontation before the dust settles, but it will wind up as envisioned by the UN in 1947-----so ahead to the past.
