despairReader comment on item: Muslim Zionism Submitted by Mark Katzman (United States), Jun 12, 2006 at 21:30 I don't know what to say to this absolutely foreign (to me) development- that Jews shouldn't care enough for Jerusalem, or Israel for that matter. I can't believe that what transpired in Europe under the nazis has no meaning or emotional impact on world Jewry anymore. That's it-done that-let's move on! Israel as an experiment worked, o.k., lets pack it up and move to New York and California. What happened to those people who were pulled from the edge of the abyss-the horrendous charnel house that was Europe, and who came to Israel and fought to make a 2000 year old dream a reality-by sheer will power! And now its a world of Jewish Tony Kushners-Israel was a great mistake. Oh, pardon me-it takes too much effort-it interrupts my party time or the NBA World Championships. The arabs are firing enough missiles into the Negev to make it seem like a reenactment of the Battle of Britain, and Olmert goes off to visit Europe!? I don't get it. Someone please explain it to me. I grew up in the 1950's and the importance of Israel to Jews the world over was drummed into my head and I believed it, and I still believe it. And yet, there are Jews, and Israelis to boot, to whom the Holocaust has no meaning. If those 6 million souls, my father's and mother's family among them, had been able to escape to an Israel, my God, what they wouldn't have given-those Jews who died in the ghettos, and those who came within sight of the Statue of Liberty (on the St. Louis) only to be shut out and sent back to die. And the arabs, who have contributed virtually nothing in hundreds of years besides slavery, and subjugation of women, and suicide bombers. And the Jews are SILENT. What would Jeremiah have said to this? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
