About the political situation in EthiopiaReader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely Submitted by Berihun Assfaw (Canada), Dec 28, 2005 at 14:40 The world knows the voice of the Ethiopian people is stifled by the tyrranical regime of Prime Minister Melese Zenawi.More than 40,000 people are in jail. This includes young and old, women and childern. One hundred thirty one members of CUD political party including all the leaders and 25 journalists are also in jail. They are acused of treason. The list include the radio journalists who work in VOA and De Vallie and more than 20 Ethiopians who live in Washington DC. The Europian Parliament is leading in demanding targeting sanction against the dictatorial regime , and it seems the American Congress is following the Europian lead. But the 60,000 strong Canadian Ethiopians are saddened by the silence of the Canadian Government. I am writing this to you to open a debate about the political situation in our country of orgin. The killings and the imprisonments have never been seen in Africa, since the end of Aparthed regime. in South Africa. e-mail :berihunassfaw@hotmail.com Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
