Israel vs. the Palestinians-world's greatest red herringReader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely Submitted by Ed Brophy (United States), Dec 13, 2005 at 13:50 I can't really verify this, but I'm guessing that Israel's actual day-to day friends (on a village to village-micro societal/political basis) are the Palestinians and visa-versa. The "conflict" is an islamist red herring used to generate or reinvigorate hatreds.Of course, all of the adjacent Arab states have used this for years. If this is not really a red herring and the poor Palestinians are so loved and admired why is it that these oil rich, cash-rich, potentates have done nothing to lift these poor people out their severe, dismal state of poverty? Why do they want to maintain this status quo? The answer, of course, if something ( a miracle) were to take place to give these poor people a state of their own, at peace with Israel, then a brand new "red herring" would be needed as a replacement. As it is they now have the perfect hate generating "red herring". Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
