Kofi Annan and Israel's elimination

Reader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely

Submitted by Ian Mordant (United Kingdom), Dec 13, 2005 at 12:20

Daniel Pipes observes that a Palestinian 'right of return' involves the elmination of Israel. True.

But Dr Pipes omits to mention that the very first law passed by the new Israeli Knesset in 1950 invoked a 'right of return' for Jews.

Its a bit difficult to lecture Palestinians on their teenage one-sidedness in this matter, which they regularly manifest, without pointing to Israel's own Law of Return.

So what to do? 1) Each Israeli political party campaigns for election on, amongst other things, its answer to allowing any Jew to move to Israel: one such party or collection of parties would no doubt win such an election unless a majority of Israel's electorate decides otherwise.

2) We all get rid of invoking a RIGHT of return, recognise its a teenage incantation, a way of pretending other people have no rights in the area.

Only then can we get a compromise adult peace between the two.
