OIC Summit Conference -- Dec. 7 - 8, 2005

Reader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely

Submitted by Chris Chrisman (United States), Dec 13, 2005 at 20:10

I have been following the OIC Summit Conference of this month with great interest because the organizers promised an action plan for the renaissance of the Muslim Ummah. The conference ended with a 10 year plan, the full text of which can be read at islamicnews.org.sa, archive, December 8.

There are some very good elements to the plan, including condemning terrorism, promoting inter-religious dialogue and education, improving womens rights, and setting up a central authority for fatwas.

On the other hand, the main focus of OIC stands out loud and clear -- Palestine.

The most troubling section has to do with Islamophobia, which they want to make illegal in all countries via a UN resolution. This is to "ensure respect for all religions and combat their defamation" I can't wait to see how the OIC is going to tackle the passage in the Koran that says of the People of the Book that "most of you are evil doers" (5:58) and the one that calls on Moslems to "make war on the infidels who dwell around you." (9:123)
