Reader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), Dec 13, 2005 at 21:56

Raw Anti-Semitism became very unfashionable as the enormity of the evil perpetrated against the Jews through the Holocaust became widely disseminated. As your article implicitly suggests, this unfashionable form of Anti-Semitism has been replaced -- except in places such as Iran -- by an "anti-Israel-ism" wherein the hatred is disguised.

This is why Jews and others who love Israel and who realize that the destruction of Israel would -- and rather quickly -- lead to the disappearance of Jews on this planet must be prepared for a relatively lonely (relative to the world stage) struggle aganst the forces which aim for the destruction and elimination of the nation of Israel.// In this regard there obtains a widespread misperception of Sharon's strategy. He understands that a "final agreement" with the Palestinians may never come or come only in a time period which is measured in decades rather than years. He understands that Israel cannot indefinitely survive and thrive while waiting interminably for the Palestinians to get their act together. Thus his primary goal is DISENGAGEMENT from the Palestinians.

The final borders of Israel (including Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and of Israel alone, and including the annexation of significant portions of the West Make into a Greater Israel) must be brought about within the next threee years WITH OR WITHOUT a peace agreement with the Palestinians. I believe his strategy should be supported by all of those in and outside of Israel who care for Israel's well-being and continued existence. John W. McGionley
