Reader comment on item: [Kofi Annan and] Eliminating Israel Politely

Submitted by Mike Miller (United States), Dec 13, 2005 at 13:59

As usual, you present a cogent position on the UN position on Iran/Israel. As for Israel's battle fatigue, that, too, is all too true. In fact, it is the Kadimah platform.

What bothers me most, however, about the Iranian threat is the foot-dragging of the EU and the US on Iran's nuclear development. There was always the option of blockading the Persian Gulf and crippling the unpopular mullahcracy, but it was never considered.

I believe that the EU and Russia, as well as the US State Department and the CIA, want Iran to have nuclear weapons and use them against Israel, then politely express regrets, and only then will they act to protect themselves.

I would appreciate your comments.

Daniel Pipes replies:

No, I disagree that any of these parties look forward to Tehran wielding nuclear weapons against Israel, though there are certainly elements within them that would like that - see http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/252 for a short listing of them.
