British Opinion Survey of Muslims in UK

Reader comment on item: British Opinion Surveys from an Islamist Hell

Submitted by A concerned American Muslim (United States), Jul 26, 2005 at 14:01

Dear Mr. Pipes:

As a non-observant Muslim living in US, I was really alarmed when I read your article. I belong to a minority sect in Islam called the Ahmadiyya. Members of my community have been declared non-muslims in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other places and face constant discrimination. ( I am not allowed to go to the Islamic holy places in Saudi Arabia.) The founder of my sect declared in India in the 1880s that the time for Jihad was over and there is no justification for violence in the name of religion or for any other reason. I am really shocked at the responses reported in British newpapers. My wife and I are loyal Americans and so will be my children when they grow up. There is much to be admired about Western sociey, i.e. rule of law, true equality of opportunity, religious freedom, tolerance. I just don't understand the basis for these negative opinions about the UK or the West. I have been to the other side and its not pretty.

I think the Mulsim community in the West has a real problem on its hand and needs to wake up to it.
