Schizophrenia in Islam

Reader comment on item: British Opinion Surveys from an Islamist Hell

Submitted by Jan Vink (Netherlands), Jul 26, 2005 at 06:00

Dear Dr. Pipes,

What worries me the most about the acceleration of Islamism in the West is the apparant "schizophrenia" diplayed by many Islamic spokesmen, imams and the moderate Muslim audience. It seems that many radical Muslims, but also moderate ones, tend to answer questions about Islam in a way just to please us. For example, they know what we want to hear about the inhumanity of suicide attacks and general Jihadist activitity. At the same time, however, radical Muslims and an increasing number of moderate Muslims do tend to sympathise with Jihadists when the spotlight is turn off. Should we prepare ourselves for an upward revision of the sobering statististics you just published?

Sincerely yours,

Jan
