Howard Laitin said it right

Reader comment on item: Accepting Israel as the Jewish State[: Public Opinion in Four Arab Countries]
in response to reader comment: "under the right circumstances"

Submitted by Ted (United States), Aug 6, 2010 at 02:33

Dear Dr Pipes:

What Howard Laitin said about the peace prospect in the middle east is absolutely right. I think none of us can honestly say that they have ever met an islamist with even a marginally sympathetic opinion toward Israel. And two more things are going against the people who are opposing the Islamic Expansionism. First, we live in democratic societies and our leaders need Islamist's votes to stay in power and second, by the virtue of our own vows we cannot resort to the methods that Islamists are using. Our only option is to match Islamist's false propaganda with our own true propaganda. It is our duty to repeat as often as possible that we --the non-Islamists-- follow a different set of principles: We let people think freely. We may die defending ourselves but we feel no need to kill to defend our God. We follow the principle of symmetry as often as possible and in as many places as possible. Our God is not-only merciful but He is forgiving as well.
